Hello!  Thank you for visiting my blog and resource center.  My name is Angela Joy, and I invite you to join me on my quest to bring cultural diversity to the bookshelves of children.

We’ve all been there: scanning the stacks in libraries and bookstores; surfing the web; trying to find quality children’s books that reflect the diversity of the world in which we live.   It’s a challenge, to say the least.

Over the years, I’ve become a bit of an illustrator myself (Ha, Ha!) –shading in the characters of great stories with Sharpies and colored pencils, so that my children can see themselves in their bedtime stories.

Sure, my little ones could use their imaginations–as one librarian recently suggested (really?).  But, there is no denying the value of seeing oneself in the world of media: in movies, television, magazines, and yes, in children’s literature.   So, I’m on the hunt.  I am desperately seeking diversity, and I’m not alone.

This website is for people who find themselves on a similar quest.  For teachers and librarians who believe in the beauty of diversity.   For parents who wish to share a multicultural world with their children.  For bibliophiles who care enough to instill in all children a love of self, and a love for others, via the transcending nature of a good book.  This is where we meet.

Here, I will share the resources that I create and discover on our family’s educational journey.  While this site is not an exhaustive list of the praiseworthy materials out there, it does represent some of my favorite findings: materials that manage to simultaneously promote literacy and diversity in a healthy, positive, and high-quality way.  It is my hope that the information here serves you on your journey as well.

Peace and Blessings,
